Sorry kids, mom and dad are going to be leaving you at home with the babysitter when Terminator: Dark Fate hits theatres later this year.

The newest instalment in the long-running franchise is going to be rated R, director Tim Miller confirmed.

Miller made the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday where he was joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton.

“It’s because it wasn’t always that way, and the fans kind of demanded it,” Variety quoted Miller as saying. “The DNA of Terminator is an R-rated f—ing movie.”

The Terminator franchise was thought to be, er, terminated after the poor box office performance of 2015’s Terminator: Genisys .

But James Cameron (who directed the original and its sequel) was persuaded to return to the series to help reboot it for a new generation.

“This is a continuation of the story from Terminator 1 and Terminator 2 ,” Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter . “And we’re pretending the other films were a bad dream. Or an alternate timeline, which is permissible in our multi-verse.”

Appearing via satellite from the New Zealand set of the Avatar sequels, Cameron added: “We came up with all kinds of crazy stuff you’ve never seen before.”

Dark Fate , which also stars Edward Furlong (reprising his role as John Connor), Natalia Reyes, Mackenzie Davis and Gabriel Luna as a new Terminator, will be released Nov. 1.
