CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Two wins within a month saw three residents of the western Newfoundland region take home $250,000 from playing Atlantic Lottery’s recently released Hit or Miss game.

Kayla Hynes of St. Jude’s was the top-prize winner of $250,000 for the Oct. 24 nightly draw.

Before winning, she had only purchased tickets for the new game a couple of times since its September launch.

Her win prompted Matt Green and Karren Hunt of Ming’s Bight to buy a ticket together for the Nov. 25 nightly draw and they also won $250,000.

“I never expected to win,” said Hynes in a press release from Atlantic Lottery. “I didn’t believe it. I thought 'no, it can’t be me.’”

Hynes planned to buy a new vehicle with her winnings and gift her current car to her mother. She’s also planning a shopping spree and a dream vacation down south.

“I really won peace of mind, that’s the best part of it. It has changed my life because now I have more financial freedom.”

Green and Hunt were both equally in shock, calling their win life-changing.

“We’re going to buy a house, that’s the first plan,” said Green. “No more renting, just being able to buy a house, there are no words. This is going to change our lives.”

Hit or Miss is a daily draw game with a chance to win up to $25,000 instantly in-store. There is also a nightly draw of $250,000.

Players can win the top prize of Hit or Miss by matching all 12 of the numbers drawn or none of the numbers drawn. Both top prize-winning tickets from Newfoundland hit all 12 numbers.

A top prize remains unclaimed in Dartmouth, N.S. from the Oct. 3 nightly draw.

Hynes’ winning ticket was purchased at the Rockwood Lounge in Deer Lake and Green and Hunt purchased their ticket at Copper Stop Ltd. in Baie Verte.

The retailers will each receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
