Closures, schedule changes in St. John’s due to Remembrance Day

Various activities and ceremonies were held in St. John's Saturday morning to mark Remembrance Day.
The Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day parade and ceremony will begin at the Sergeants’ Memorial, Queen’s Road at 10:10 a.m. The parade will arrive at the National War Memorial at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Several city offices will be closed and schedules changed in observance of Remembrance Day on Sunday, Nov. 11 and Monday, Nov. 12.

All city-operated recreation facilities will be closed on Sunday but open for regularly scheduled programs on Monday, except for preschool and after school programs.

Parking meter regulations will be enforced on Monday, Nov. 12.

Humane Services Animal Care and Adoption Centre is closed on Sunday.

City council will meet Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 4:30 p.m. instead of the usual Monday meeting.

The Robin Hood Bay Waste Management Facility is open only to commercial users on Monday, and there is no waste collection on Monday. Garbage and recycling collection in all areas will occur the day after regular pickup, including Saturday.

Remembrance Day ceremony

There will be several road closures in the area due to the parade and ceremony.

The Royal Canadian Legion is holding a special event at sunset on Sunday, Nov. 11, called ‘Bells of Peace’.

The event begins with a short ceremony at 3:45 p.m. at the National War Memorial and concludes with the ringing of one hundred bells at sunset.
