Professional project grants announced by Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council

Forty-one of the 91 grant applications received through the Arts NL’s professional project grants program were awarded funds.

The dollar value of the project grants is over $276,000, which is paid for from the organization’s annual $1.9 million allocation for the provincial government. The bulk of the funding went to established artists, groups and organizations while just over $50,000 was awarded to new artists and groups.

Executive director Reg Winsor says ArtsNL continues to enjoy high application rates from across the province.

“The creative quality, critical planning, and attention to detail expressed in applications is strong, which leads to a very competitive process across all disciplines given the available funds,” Winsor stated in a release announcing this year’s successful applicants.

“It is important for ArtsNL to continue to invest in the creation of professional artistic work for the enjoyment and benefit of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians that, in turn, brings in associative provincial economic benefits.”

The program provides grants — open to professional artists and groups working in dance, film, multidiscipline arts, music, theatre, visual arts, and writing — for artistic projects involving creation, production or professional development.

The next deadline for program application is March 15, 2019.
