‘Helping dentists with supporting their patients is why we come into work every day’

Hope’s oral cancer left her unable to eat solid food, she hardly smiled anymore, and she refused to leave her home. Her self-esteem was very low until her dentist called in Masters Dental Lab to assess her very complex restoration needs.

The goal? To rebuild Hope’s oral function, allowing her to smile and chew comfortably once again.

It was an undertaking that Henry Hintze — the owner of Masters Dental Lab in Halifax and a graduate of a rigorous Masters Dental Technician (MDT) degree program — called “a challenge, and an honour.”

Understanding Hope’s needs took skill, focus and care, and Hintze and his technicians carefully selected the proper materials and technologies to create exactly what Hope needed in order to feel whole again.

“When we were finished and Hope finally smiled, it was radiant,” recalls Hintze. “It was a tender, unforgettable moment to be able to compassionately restore what her oral cancer had taken away. Helping dentists with supporting their patients is why we come into work every day.”

BEHIND EVERY GREAT DENTIST IS A GREAT DENTAL LAB — AND MORE PREDICTABILITY WITH PATIENT TREATMENT PLANNING

Masters Dental Lab works directly with dental practices around the world, helping dental specialists assess complex cases and offering perspectives, insights and recommendations on the best technologies which will solve these challenges.

The result? More predictable treatment planning and better patient outcomes. It was a skill gap in the dental industry that Dr. Ormir Berdica, an Implant Leader at Masters Dental Lab, says “desperately needed to be addressed.”

“The low-skill, mass manufacturing labs can satisfy patient needs for simple and moderate challenges, but not so much the tricky cases,” explains Dr. Berdica. “That’s where we come in. Masters Dental Lab has filled this niche gap, with advanced problem-solving, technical advice, communication and people skills — all for the good of the patient.”

He says dental labs who gain understanding of clinical aspects, vocabulary and chairside support to see what dentists face, are better equipped to provide valuable support.

It’s a service Dr. Luke Austin appreciated greatly when he was a young dentist, new to the industry, explaining “Masters was invaluable in mentoring me with my complex cases.”

VIRTUAL CONSULTATIONS ROLLING OUT NOW FOR REAL-TIME PATIENT CASE SUPPORT

Masters Dental Lab can now offer digital chairside support through pre-booked virtual consultation appointments, as a complement to the use of CAD CAM images from oral scanner technology.

Barbara Christina, Business Planner at Masters Dental Lab, says the ability to assess and recommend while the patient is still in the dental chair is highly valued in the dental industry.

“Virtual consultations are becoming mainstream due to the pandemic, and we’re now able to attend virtual appointments with dentists and their patients across Canada — leveraging digital adoption and aligning the organization to use digital tools to its fullest extent,” says Christina. “Digital adoption leads to real-time discussion, real-time results and real-time support for clients.”

When Masters Dental Lab is virtually attending an appointment, she says dentists and their patients feel like they’re “right here alongside them at the dental chair.”

“We can exchange and store patient information (X-rays, STL files, photos) prior to or during the consult, and this is a moment where the patient and dentist can easily describe the patient’s complex oral challenge so we can all discuss it,” says Christina. “With auxiliary dental technology tools, we have access to all patient files — which we store on our secure and high-capacity computers.”

Masters Dental Lab is also offering virtual consultations for treatment planning. And also for dental labs in order to discreetly help them address challenges with complex cases.

OFFERING VALUABLE EDUCATION AND A STUDY CLUB THROUGH AN EDUCATIONAL ALLIANCE WITH THE DAWSON ACADEMY

“Masters provides value to dentists, dental teams and dental labs to learn,” says Aurora, Manager at Masters Dental Lab. Dental professionals appreciate the new Dawson Study Club, a variety of livestream and online courses and multiple resources, and she’s “pleased that clients see value in earning CE points through these courses.”

The staff at Masters are lifelong learners and they are encouraged to take advanced courses so they can support the dental industry to the best of their ability, according to Aurora, who has an Education degree.

“Masters has a wealth of knowledge,” says Dr. Aaron Tait. “They take the extra effort to look at the patient with the longer term in mind. They consider functional occlusion in all that they do. This aligns with the principles set out by my school of thought, The Dawson Academy.”

CONNECTING WITH DENTISTS WITH A FULLY DIGITAL WEBSITE AND USING SMART TECH

Connection has never been better, according to Maureen Murray, Dental Technician at Masters.

Through their new website with new digital capabilities, dentists can now easily and securely upload large patient files and share them with Masters. The new website provides information, enhanced ability to connect, access to resources, courses and articles.

Thanks to Masters Dental Lab’s super retina capable mobile technologies, the team can receive quality information and support dentists while on the run.

“As a problem-solving company, we are ready at any time — and in any location — to support our dentist clients when they have a patient in their chair,” says Christina. “This means we can reduce chair-time for a busy patient who has other places to be, and for the dentist who has multiple patients to see.”

MORE PERSONALIZED PATIENT CARE AND BETTER EXPERIENCES

Masters Dental Lab is bursting the bubble in Atlantic Canada by offering more human connection and interaction, across Canada and beyond. Murray says they’ve invested in additional modern dental technologies in order to deliver superior customer experiences and improved relationships via personal care.

According to Research Scope International, 85 per cent of customers want “personalized experiences,” and it’s been proven to increase loyalty by 59 per cent. Murray says this is a real differentiator that patients care about, so more dentists are turning to Masters Dental Lab.

BENEFITING DENTISTS AND PATIENTS THROUGH WELL-TIMED DISCUSSIONS

Masters Dental Lab’s brand promise is “From great discussion to best outcomes,” and Hintze says they welcome early discussion about the health, needs and wants of dental patients in order to help dentists assess the technology solutions that will best solve their patient’s complex oral challenge.

“Patients deserve the best care, and dentists simply want to be supported by a knowledgeable dental lab,” says Murray.

When a dentist is tackling tough restorations, she says it’s key to bring in an expert who can map out the bigger picture from multiple angles. The team at Masters believes in looking at the “whole” patient before making recommendations about the best technologies that will restore a patient’s smile and rebuild their oral function.

“We recommend the Top 3 best technology solutions for patients with oral challenges and we also outline the risks and benefits of each,” says Dr. Berdica. “As a result, the patient and the dentist feel confident in selecting the best course of action. Getting it right at the beginning leads to better outcomes”

IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE FOR DENTISTS THROUGH RELIABLE SUPPORT

Masters Dental Lab can significantly lessen the load for dentists — reducing the unknowns and the stress of doing it alone — and its role in improving dental-life quality is valued by experienced dentists like Dr. Michel Comeau.

“Masters brings perspective that a lot of dental labs simply do not have,” says Dr. Comeau, a Dawson Alumni Dentist. “Masters is an integral part of the treatment planning team. They have vast experience with restorations, and we can rely on Masters for their guidance.”

Amrei Pelzer, who manages workflow and records at Masters, says when a dentist works with Masters Dental Lab, it frees up the dentist’s capacity and saves time for other value-added activities, such as patient communication.

“Surrounding yourself with the right people and having an openness to discussion can lead to successful problem-solving,” says Pelzer. “With our experience, education and perspective, dentists feel more supported with treatment planning and we become a valued member of the treatment planning process.”
