A study in bronze: Kaetlyn Osmond finishes third in Olympic Games women's singles skating

Newfoundland native becomes Canada's 27th medallist at PyeongChang Games, setting a new record for this country

Newfoundland native Kaetlyn Osmond has a complete set of Olympic medals and her first as an individual.
The 22-year-old, who began her figure skating career in her hometown of Marystown, claimed the bronze medal in women’s singles at the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang, Korea early this morning, skating a strong, but elegant long program and finishing with a personal-best score of 231.02. That still left her behind Russians Evgeni Medvedeva (238.26) and gold medallist Alina Zagitova (239.57).

Kaetlyn Osmond's bronze medal is the 27th won by Canadian athletes at the 2018 Winter Olympics, a record for this country in Winter Games history.

The three finished in the same order in the short skate that was held two days ago.

Osmond won a silver with Canada in the team event at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and a gold medal in the team competition earlier in these Games. But the bronze represents a big jump from her 13-place finish as an individual skater in Sochi.
Osmond’s medal also had significance for the entire Canadian team at these Games in that it was the 27th overall medal for Canada in Pyeongchang, a Winter Games record for this country, besting the previous high of 26 set in 2010 in Vancouver.
It is also the sixth medal won by a Canadian women’s singles skater in Winter Games history.
