SYDNEY, N.S. — In an effort to mitigate the negative impacts of food packaging on the environment, ACAP Cape Breton is working with the Pan Cape Breton Food Hub Co-op Ltd. to learn more about the negative environmental impacts of food packaging on communities in Cape Breton.
Through a series of outreach surveys and conversations with local producers and restaurants, the goal will be for ACAP and the Food Hub to discover what role can be played by both organizations to help food and agricultural businesses reduce the amount of packaging used.
A brief survey has been launched to gather information directly from food producers and local businesses with hopes that the general public may also want to provide their insight as consumers.
Ultimately, ACAP would like to explore the possibility of creating a social enterprise that would acquire environmentally-minded packaging alternatives for a large group of local producers and restaurants so the products are more financially accessible.
