One of the two men accused of breaking into a St. John's bank with the use of heavy equipment has been released from jail, while the other will be back in court Wednesday for a bail hearing.
Jamie Kennedy, 40, was released from custody on bail late Monday afternoon, and will make his next appearance before a judge Feb. 28. Cory Quilty, 41, is still behind bars and will be back in court on Wednesday for his bail hearing.
The men, who are both from Paradise, were arrested Saturday morning after a break-in at the BMO Bank of Montreal branch on Newfoundland Drive.
The RNC says officers from the patrol services division, police dog service and forensic identification section responded to an alarm at the bank around 4:30 Saturday morning, where a break-in had occurred using heavy equipment. A front-end loader was left outside the bank.
Shortly afterward, police made a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway, and arrested Kennedy and Quilty.
Kennedy is facing charges of breaking and entering, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, public mischief, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm and other firearms offences.

The break-in was the fourth in a series of similar incidents in the metro area in a week, though police have not said they are linked. Last weekend a front-end loader was used to smash into the TD Bank branch on Elizabeth Avenue. A backhoe was used to break through windows at Sobeys on Kelsey Drive Monday morning, where an ATM was stolen. On Friday, an excavator was used to break into the drive-through ATM area of the Scotiabank branch on the main highway in C.B.S
