About an hour later, officers were informed of a single-vehicle collision in Makinsons whereby a pickup truck had rammed into a light pole and knocked it down in the road.

As they were on the way to the scene, the RCMP learned the driver had left the area in the truck.

The vehicle was found by police a few kilometres away with a small fire burning inside the cab. Officers were able to put out the fire and search the truck. There was no one inside.

The RCMP then determined that pickup was the same one reported stolen earlier in the day.

RCMP Police Dog Services were brought in to conduct a search for the driver at the scene.

The RCMP has released several photos of the man they are trying to identify that were taken from surveillance footage.

The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bay Roberts RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
