ST. JOHN’S – Crosbie Group chairman and philanthropist Robert Crosbie received one of the country’s highest honours today when he was named to the Order of Canada.

Julie Payette, Governor General of Canada, announced the 103 most recent appointments in Ottawa. Crosbie was the only person named from this province.

Crosbie was recognized for his contributions to industry and for his volunteerism and philanthropy in support of education, health care and community initiatives.

“I feel both humbled and proud to be recognized in such company as those who have received this honour,” Crosbie was quoted in a news release.

He will be invited to accept the Order of Canada insignia at a ceremony at Rideau Hall at a later date.

Created in 1967, the Order of Canada “honours people whose service shapes our society; whose innovations ignite our imaginations; and whose compassion unites our communities,” reads a statement on the Governor General’s website.

Close to 7,000 people have been invested into the Order.
