ST. ELEANORS, P.E.I. —

A 21-year-old Summerside area man is facing impaired driving related charges after an incident early Saturday morning.

At about 2:15 a.m. on March 6, a Summerside police officer was on patrol in the St. Eleanors area and noticed two all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) travelling westbound on Route #2. The vehicles were weaving back and forth across the roadway.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicles, but both fled at high rates of speed. The officer did not pursue the vehicles for public safety reasons.

Then, at about 2:30 a.m., police responded to a report of an ATV that was stuck near the Slemon Park area. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer was able to identify the operator of the ATV as one of the drivers who fled from police earlier.

The driver failed a roadside test and was arrested for flight from police and impaired operation.

The driver later provided breath samples in excess of the legal limit and will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to the charges.
