Canada’s Food Island gift cards will be available to purchase beginning Monday, Sept. 28 at retail locations across the Island.

The gift card program was created by Food Island Partnership to support P.E.I. local businesses, fishers, farmers, food producers, restaurateurs and tourism accommodations.

The first release of 5,000 gift cards will be available for purchase at Mel’s Convenience, Murphy’s Pharmacy and Co-op locations in Souris, O’Leary and Tignish.

Islanders are encouraged to get their gift cards early as quantities are limited.

About the gift card program:

  • The gift card program is a two-year initiative and gift cards will be available to purchase year-round at full value.
  • Customers can purchase a maximum of $300 retail value in Canada’s Food Island gift cards per person.
  • Gift cards are sold only in $50 increments.
  • Gift cards are not available for sale online at this time.
  • Tourism operators can purchase gift cards at a 40 per cent discount for packaging

To celebrate the launch of the gift card program, a 20 per cent off savings on the gift card will be offered for a limited time, while supplies last. For example, a $50 Canada’s Food Island gift card will be sold for $40.

Canada’s Food Island gift cards are accepted at over 150 Island businesses. The merchant directory includes restaurants and take outs, local food markets, local retail shops, golf courses, culinary adventures, tourism accommodations and authentic P.E.I. products.

Atlantic Canadians considering a P.E.I. vacation this fall, as well as Islanders interested in a staycation, will also be able to take advantage of accommodation packages that include free Canada’s Food Island gift cards. More than 30 Island accommodation providers are offering Stay & Savour packages. Depending on the length of stay, guests can receive up to $150 in free gift cards.
