It just might be a green Christmas after all.
A small selection of cannabis edibles and extracts are expected to hit the shelves at Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation Stores on Dec. 23, spokeswoman Beverley Ware said.
"We don't know exactly at this point what's going to be coming, however, we are hopeful that we'll have a small offering in our stores on Dec. 23," Ware said Tuesday.
Topicals and baked goods won't be available until the new year, she said.
The responses licensed producers give the Crown corporation on its purchase orders, placed on Monday, will determine what will be available and when. NSLC has placed orders with licensed producers both locally and from across the country.
"The licensed producers have had a tremendous amount of work to do to get ready for this in a short period of time," Ware said.
"Once we receive the orders ... we'll do the best to expedite getting the products to our stores. Based on the experience that we had last time, we can turn these products around quite quickly."
The products are to be at all 12 cannabis NSLC stores, but won't be available to buy online until Jan. 6.
Information on the new products will be provided to customers with each purchase. The store will also have information displayed on screens behind the counters, as well as staff on hand who have all taken an online course on the new legislation.
"We expect it's going to be a very gradual introduction of products to the market and that the product assortment is going to grow over time," Ware said.
