SYDNEY, N.S. — A Sydney woman charged with first-degree murder has been ordered to stand trial in Supreme Court.
Jessica Anne MacDonald, 33, is charged in connection with the death of 41-year-old Stephen Richard Rose on Nov. 5, 2019 inside a Rotary Park apartment in Sydney.
MacDonald was committed to trial after a preliminary hearing. Evidence from the hearing is banned from publication until a final verdict is rendered in the case.
MacDonald has elected to be tried by judge and jury. She continues to be on remand.
She is now to appear in Supreme Court on Dec. 7 to receive a trial date.
Also charged in Rose’s death is Joseph Frederick Evong, 38, who faces a similar count of first-degree murder.
He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Nov. 18-19. Evong is also on remand.
New trial date assigned
A Sydney man has been assigned a new trial date on driving offences.
Shane Aaron Burton, 35, of Glenwood Drive is charged with impaired driving, refusing a breathalyzer demand and driving while prohibited.
A provincial court trial is now set for May 3.
In 2018, Burton had his license suspended for two years following convictions on charges including impaired and dangerous driving.
