SYDNEY, N.S. — Two Sydney Mines residents have been released again after being the subject of arrest warrants for failing to attend court.
Donald Steven Groves, 41, and Diana Patricia LeBlanc, 43, both of Ocean Street are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, possession of codeine, possession of Percocet and possession of money obtained by crime.
They are also charged with careless storage of a weapon and careless storage of ammunition.
The offences are alleged to have occurred March 6 in Sydney Mines.
When the pair failed to show to enter pleas, arrest warrants were issued.
They did appear in provincial court and were released on previously ordered conditions.
Both are now to return to court Nov. 12 to enter pleas.
Sentence includes one-year ban on accessing internet
SYDNEY — A Louisbourg man has been banned from accessing the internet for one-year after being charged with pornography offences.
Phillip Maurice Burke, 59, was scheduled to stand trial in provincial court on charges of distribution of child pornography and with possession of child pornography.
The offences were to have occurred between June and December 2016.
Burke instead agreed to sign a peace bond in connection with possession of child pornography while the distribution offence was withdrawn.
The bond will remain in effect for one year with conditions that include he not be in contact with any person under the age of 16 unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.
He is to stay away from parks, playgrounds, school grounds, daycares and other areas where individuals under 16 are likely to gather, he is not to seek employment which would place him in a position of trust and he is not to access the internet for any reason.
Sentencing date set on theft charge
SYDNEY — A Glace Bay man is now scheduled to be sentenced in December after pleading guilty to theft over $5,000.
Liam David Buchanan, 24, of Second Street is alleged to have used another individual’s credit card incurring charges of over $5,000.
The offence occurred between April and June 2016.
Buchanan, who continues his release on conditions, is now scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 7.
Accused to serve lengthy probation
SYDNEY — A 24-year-old Glace Bay man has been sentenced after entering guilty pleas to a host of offences.
Trent Michael Mischiek of Minto Street was sentenced on two counts of mischief and single counts of possession of stolen property, auto theft, unlawfully being in a dwelling and breaching a court order. Several other charges were dismissed.
The offences occurred in May in New Waterford and Sydney.
Mischiek was sentenced to complete a 22-month probation period during which he was ordered to stay away from a property owned by the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and refrain from alcohol and drugs not prescribed him.
