SYDNEY, N.S. — A Supreme Court, judge alone, trial has been set for an Eskasoni man charged with sex offences.
John Henry Lafford, 66, is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of invitation to sexual touching and a single count of indecent exposure.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between 2008 and 2010 and involve a single complainant.
Lafford is now scheduled to stand trial Sept. 8-10, 2021.
He continues his release on conditions that include he have no association with anyone under the age of 16 and is to report to police, by phone, once a week. He is also to have no contact with the complainant.

Trial date set on sex offences

A Supreme Court trial date has been set for an Eskasoni man charged with 12 sex offences.
David Martin Francis, 64, is charged with four counts of sexual exploitation, four counts of sexual interference, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of invitation to sexual touching.
The offences involve two complainants and were alleged to have been committed in Eskasoni between 2002 and 2014.
Francis is now scheduled to have a judge alone trial from Oct. 26-29, 2021.
He continues his release on conditions.

Accused assigned trial date 

A Sydney man has been assigned a Supreme Court trial date on a host of charges.
Kristopher Michael Clark, 26, of Kings Road, is charged with three counts of assault and single counts of sexual assault, forcible confinement and mischief relating to property damage.
The offences are alleged to have occurred in October 2019 in Sydney.
Clark is now scheduled to stand trial before a judge alone on Oct. 5-7, 2021.

Sentencing date assigned 

A 33-year-old Sydney man will be sentenced in January on charges including two counts of assault.
Ian Joseph Morrison of Victoria Road was previously found guilty on the two assault offences along with two counts of breaching court orders and a single count of mischief relating to property damage, a cellphone. He was found not guilty on charges including dangerous driving and assault with a weapon, a truck. 
The offences occurred in November 2018, in Grand Mira North. 
Sentencing is now scheduled for Jan. 12.

Plea set on drug trafficking 

Two Westmount residents are to return to provincial court in November to enter pleas on a drug charge.
Derek Francis O’Neil, 43, and Sherry Fanning, 45, both of Rosary Drive, are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine and possession of property, money, obtained by crime.
The offences are alleged to have occurred Sept. 11 in Westmount.
Both individuals are now scheduled to enter pleas to the charges Nov. 26.  They continue their release on conditions.

Plea set on drug weapon offences

A Sydney woman is to return to provincial court in November to enter pleas on drug and weapon offences.
Jocelyn Marie Dixon, 69, of St. Albans Street is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in hydromorphone, careless storage of a weapon (a 30-30 rifle) and possession of property, money, knowing it was obtained by crime.
The offences are alleged to have occurred Sept. 1 in Sydney.
Dixon is now scheduled to enter pleas Nov. 26.

Accused enters guilty pleas

A Quebec man has entered guilty pleas on two offences while nine others were dismissed.
Maxime Brodeur, 39, of Saint-Sauveur-des-Monts, pleaded guilty to a single count of possession for the purpose of trafficking in marijuana and careless transport of a weapon - a loaded 9-mm handgun.
The offences occurred in February 2017 in Baddeck. At the time of his arrest, a female was facing similar offences but those charges were previously withdrawn.
Brodeur was charged after being pulled over by RCMP near Baddeck and inside the vehicle, police uncovered some 18 pounds of marijuana along with quantities of cocaine and methamphetamine.
He previously elected trial in Supreme Court but re-elected back to provincial court. He also attempted to have the charges moved to Quebec.
He is now scheduled to return to provincial court Nov. 24 when a date will be set for a hearing for his defence lawyer to make an application under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
