It may be difficult to travel to and from P.E.I. Thursday as high winds are expected to sweep across the Island.

The site-specific weather forecast received at the Confederation Bridge indicates wind conditions that may result in traffic restrictions on the span from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. Thursday.

As well, Northumberland Ferries has issued an advisory that the 6:30 a.m. crossing will be cancelled Thursday due to the weather.

According to Environment Canada, easterly wind gusts of 70 km/h or higher are likely Thursday, and higher than normal water levels and rough surf are also possible near high tide along the north coast in the evening.

"We can expect both wind and rain but this one is more of a windstorm," says Cindy Day, chief meteorologist for SaltWire Network. "Warnings are in place: some of us could get gusts over 100 km/h."
