The Canada Revenue Agency executed 15 simultaneous search warrants across Ontario and Quebec on Thursday, the CRA said.

The raids, assisted by the RCMP, were conducted to collect information for an investigation, “representing approximately $8.3 million in tax evaded,” the release stated.

The raids were conducted in Ottawa , the Greater Toronto Area , London , Windsor, Gatineau , Laval , and Montréal.

Under the income tax and excise tax laws, a tax evasion conviction may result in fines ranging from 50 per cent to 200 per cent of the evaded taxes and up to five years’ imprisonment. Additionally, a person convicted of fraud can face up 14 years in jail.
