DARTMOUTH, N.S. — No injuries were reported Thursday afternoon when a fire caused significant damage to a two-storey home on Bayswater Road in Dartmouth.
Deputy Fire Chief Dave Meldrum said Halifax Fire crews responded to what was originally a report of a shed on fire at about 3:15 p.m.
“I know on arrival, our firefighters discovered an extension of that fire into a house,” Meldrum said in a telephone interview at about 3:45.
“They've searched that house now and there was nobody found in the house. They've done their search, so that's good news. No report of injuries right now.”
There were seven fire trucks plus some command people on the scene late in the afternoon, Meldrum said.
“Right now, they're just working on extinguishing what fire is left, but they are making good progress.”
Meldrum said he was not aware if the homeowners were contacted yet.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Meldrum also appealed to Nova Scotians to be careful as the official start of summer kicks off.
“We're into a period of very dry, very hot temperatures and high winds, so the fire index is very high so we ask folks to obey the no burning rules at all times,” he said.
