The arrest and subsequent hospitalization of a southern Alberta woman has launched an investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
On Sunday morning at roughly 10:45 a.m., the Blood Tribe Police Service had responded to a complaint on the First Nation locating a 35-year-old woman who was eventually arrested for causing a disturbance.
ASIRT said that prior to the woman’s arrest, the woman had complained of a sore head, back, and wrist. While officers rendered first aid, paramedics were called to assess the woman and later at the force’s detention facilities.
Twelve hours later, ASIRT said the woman was found in medical distress before she was transferred to hospital, where she remains. It isn’t known whether the woman’s deteriorating condition was the result of a medical event or injury, ASIRT added.
ASIRT says their investigation will examine whether police conduct caused, or contributed, to the deterioration of the woman’s condition.
