A judge was not ready to give her decision Tuesday on a bail application by a young man charged with impaired driving in a head-on crash in Dartmouth on Feb. 6 that seriously injured two people in the other vehicle.
It was the third time Brandon James Crombie, 19, of Dartmouth had been arrested for impaired driving in just over six months.
Crombie appeared in Dartmouth provincial court March 18 for a bail hearing on five charges in connection with the crash: impaired driving causing bodily harm, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop at an accident, failing to stop at an accident that he knew had resulted in bodily harm, and breaching release conditions.
The Crown also applied to revoke Crombie’s bail on Aug. 4 and Nov. 7 charges of impaired driving and one count of failing to attend court Nov. 6.
Judge Rickcola Brinton was scheduled to announce her decision Tuesday but informed the defence and Crown on Monday she needed more time.
Her decision is now set for April 7. A publication ban on details of the hearing will also apply to the reasons the judge gives for her decision.
Police allege Crombie was driving a red Mazda sedan that was travelling south in the northbound lanes of the Circumferential Highway when it collided with a blue Hyundai sedan.
The occupants of the Hyundai, an Eastern Passage couple, were taken to hospital with injuries that Halifax Regional Police described as life-threatening.
Crombie, who was also injured in the crash, was arrested at the scene after allegedly trying to flee on foot.
A GoFundMe account set up for crash victims Jessica Baker and Kyle Rice has raised more than $41,500.
