A mother could be facing criminal charges after leaving her one-year-old baby alone in a vehicle in Longueuil on Saturday, when the temperature was nearly 30 degrees.

At 12:30 p.m. Longueuil patrol officers received a call concerning a toddler left unattended inside a parked car on Taschereau Blvd., in the borough of Greenfield Park.

According to Longueuil police spokesperson François Boucher, upon arriving at the scene, officers broke the vehicle’s window to gain access to the child.

Paramedics arrived shortly after to assess the child’s condition. Police do not fear for the child’s life.

After locating the child’s mother, police handed her a statement of offence and made a report to the Direction de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ).

Police are currently assessing the circumstances of the event, with Boucher noting that they have not ruled out the possibility of charging the child’s mother with a criminal offence.
