Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team is investigating a member of the RCMP for alleged possession of child pornography.
SiRT interim director Pat Curran said RCMP contacted the team March 3 to say they were involved in an investigation that may involve an officer. His office took over the investigation March 11 when more information was received.
No charges have been laid yet. Curran said the investigation is in its early stages, and he doesn't know when it will be finished.
“I don't have a measure of that. These things are certainly dealt with promptly.”
He said the RCMP became involved “in the ordinary course of the work of looking for instances of child pornography.”
He said he the member's name didn't come up as part of a wider investigation.
The Police Act requires the director to file a public report summarizing the result of the investigation within three months after it is finished.
