Pictou County RCMP arrested a 34-year-old woman from Trenton Friday after a man was assaulted with bats and a taser.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver of the vehicle she fled in.

On June 5 at 12:09 a.m. Pictou County RCMP responded to a report that a man was being assaulted by several people, in the area of Sylvester. Upon arrival, police found a 34-year-old man with what appeared to be serious, but non life threatening injuries. Police believe the suspects assaulted the victim with baseball bats and a conducted energy weapon.

A short time later, members located a car with occupants believed to be suspects and attempted to stop the car but they refused to stop. A short distance later, the car lost control and went off the road. The car was stuck and the two occupants fled the car on foot.

The passenger was apprehended and arrested without further incident. The driver ran into the woods on foot. Police searched the area with the assistance of a police dog but he was not located. A search of the car resulted in the seizure of a baseball bat and a conducted energy weapon.

The passenger, a 34-year-old woman from Trenton, was released and is facing charges of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, Prohibited Weapon in a Motor Vehicle. She is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on Sept. 14.

Pictou County RCMP are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Forensic Identification Services and are asking anyone with information on the matter to contact Pictou County RCMP at 902-485-4333.
