LOWER SACKVILLE, N.S. — Two small fires that forced the temporary evacuation of between 50 and 60 people in Lower Sackville on Tuesday are believed to have been deliberately set.

According to a police news release, the RCMP and Halifax Regional Police Integrated General Investigation Section is investigating after Halifax District RCMP were called to a structure fire at an apartment building on Cobequid Road at 12:30 p.m.

“Two separate fires were located and put out by Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency,” the release said. “The fires are believed to be suspicious in nature. Approximately 50 to 60 residents were evacuated without incident. No one was injured during this incident.”

Cpl. Lisa Croteau, spokeswoman for the RCMP, said the residents were all able to return to their homes.

The investigation is ongoing.
