The Independent Investigations Office has been called after a man fell from an overpass in Langley.
According to a release from Langley RCMP, officers were responding to a Tuesday noontime report of a man near the edge of an overpass. In the police’s account, the officers on the scene were speaking with the man and after becoming concerned for his safety, they attempted to pull him away from the edge but were unable to prevent him from falling.
The officers were able to get to the man and began medical treatment while also calling for paramedics.
The paramedics took the man to hospital, where he was assessed as suffering from serious injuries. The police did not say what these injuries are.
The IIO is investigating whether the officers’ actions, or inactions, led to the man’s injuries, as well as the veracity of the rest of their account.
