Quebec will begin vaccinating seniors 70 and over in Montreal next week: report

Quebec will begin vaccinating seniors age 80 and over against COVID-19 starting next week, Radio Canada reported on Tuesday.

In the greater Montreal region, people 70 and over will also be eligible for a vaccination because of a high number of cases of COVID-19.

The announcement will be made by Premier François Legault at 1 p.m. during a press conference in the atrium of the Olympic Stadium, one of Montreal’s mass vaccination sites.

Quebec is expected to receive 600,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine over the next six weeks.

According to Statistics Canada, there are 753,760 people age 70 to 79 in Quebec.
There are 326,644 seniors age 80-89, 78,965 between 90 to 99 and 2,835 seniors 100 and over.
Thousands of seniors who live in CHSLDs or in private seniors’ residents have already been vaccinated.
