Sept. 25 update: Nova Scotia extends virtual care deal; no new COVID-19 cases reported

Nova Scotia is reporting no new COVID-19 cases for the third day in a row.

There were 1,015 tests done Thursday and all were negative, the Health Department said in a news release Friday. The only active case is an essential worker in ICU, which was related to out-of-country travel.

In other COVID-19 news, Nova Scotia has extended its virtual care deal with doctors until Dec. 31. The agreement that came into effect March 24 covers things like telephone appointments and videoconferencing.

As of Sept. 2, more than 919,250 virtual services were provided.

"We know Nova Scotians and doctors have appreciated keeping their appointments through virtual visits," said Health and Wellness Minister Randy Delorey in the release.

"Further extending this short-term measure makes good sense as we continue to deal with COVID-19."

Nova Scotia continues to evaluate information and options to help inform the long-term approach to virtual care, the release said. 

To date, Nova Scotia has 90,719 negative COVID-19 TEST results,1,087 positives, 1,021 resolved cases and 65 deaths. 

Visit https://811.novascotia.ca to determine if you should call 811 for further assessment if in the past 48 hours you have had, or you are experiencing fever (i.e. chills/sweats) or cough (new or worsening). 

Also take the 811 survey if you have two or more of the following symptoms (new or worsening):

  • sore throat
  •  runny nose/ nasal congestion
  • headache
  •  shortness of breath

The 811 phone system, which has drawn complaints for delays in responses, hit another snag on Friday morning. A technical glitch meant callers couldn't get through at all. 

In an email, a Health Department spokeswoman said the problem only lasted a brief period. But an 811 website notice telling people their calls wouldn't be answered stayed up for a time after the glitch was resolved.

No information was provided on exactly what caused the technical difficulties.
