Strong turnout for advance voting in Charlottetown-Winsloe byelection

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —

Twenty per cent of eligible voters have already cast their ballots in the District 10 (Charlottetown-Winsloe) byelection.

Elections P.E.I. said 15.42 per cent of eligible voters cast ballots in advanced polls on Saturday and 5.64 per cent by mail-in ballot.

“Reports from the polling station are encouraging with many voters satisfied with the speed and efficiency of the poll workers, along with the COVID-19 protocols in place to keep voters and workers safe,” Paul Alan, manager of election operations and communications for Elections P.E.I., said in a news release Saturday after the polls closed.

Four people are vying for the seat that was held by Liberal MLA Robert Mitchell, who resigned in September.
The candidates are Zack Bell (Progressive Conservative), Zac Murphy (Liberal), Lynne Thiele (NDP) and Chris van Ouwerkerk (Green).

Advance polls are open Monday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Election day is Monday, Nov. 2, with polls open again 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voters are asked to bring and wear masks when inside the building to vote. Masks will also be available for those needing one. Other COVID-19 protection procedures are in place.

Residents unsure of the voting location should check their voters information card they received in the mail or visit Elections P.E.I.’s website at www.electionspei.ca.
