SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 20-year-old Summerside man was sentenced to two years less a day for sexually assaulting a child under 16.

Jordan Alexander Howatt was sentenced Dec. 21, 2020 in Summerside provincial court by Judge Krista MacKay.

Howatt had pleaded guilty to the charge on Aug. 6, 2020, and elected to be tried by provincial court judge. A second charge of sexual interference was stayed.

The offence occurred in January 2019 in Summerside. Howatt was 18; the victim was 13.

Howatt must submit DNA to the National DNA Databank and is prohibited from owning any weapons for 10 years. His name will be on the sexual offenders’ registry for 20 years and he must stay away from all children under 16 for five years after his release.

Once released, Howatt will be on probation for two years.

A publication ban prevents the release of any details that could identify the victim.
