The deadliest COVID-19 outbreak in the province claimed two more lives Thursday at Extendicare West End Villa.
In an update issued late Thursday to the long-term care home’s families, administrator Kelly Keeler said two residents passed away during the night from complications related to COVID-19.
It means that eight people have now died in the COVID-19 outbreak at the Elmira Drive facility. The outbreak began on Aug. 30.
“We have been in touch with the families of these residents,” Keeler said, “and we know that their loved ones will be kept close to the hearts of our whole community in this difficult time.”
Forty-seven of the home’s 214 residents have tested positive in the outbreak along with 19 staff members, 15 of whom are isolating at home. The results of another 60 COVID-19 tests among staff members are still pending.
Three of the long-term care home’s residents remain in hospital with COVID-19. Testing continues among residents of the home with 48 results still pending. Residents on the fourth and fifth floors of West End Villa, who previously tested negative for COVID-19, are being tested for a second time.
