SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside police are currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning on Elm Street near Willow Avenue.

They are not releasing the name of the victim at this time. 

Several family members of the deceased man were gathered at the edge of the police barrier and were shaken by the news. 

One relative said the man celebrated his 77th birthday in June. 

There are road closures in the area that are expected to be in place for the next several hours. The public is asked to avoid the area near Elm Street Elementary School.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area at the time to call 902-432-1201.
