THORBURN, N.S. — UPDATED: A prisoner who escaped a Pictou County prison Friday evening was recaptured near Sheet Harbour Saturday morning.

Kevin Clarke-McNeil was arrested at approximately 9:45 a.m. June 6, on the MacDonald Cove Road near Sheet Harbour in Halifax Regional Municipality.

Police were able to zero in on the area after several reports in the area. At 8:27 a.m. Saturday morning Guysborough RCMP received a report of a suspicious fire shortly followed by further reports of an ATV on a roadway and a stolen ATV all within Guysborough County. Through a coordinated effort with RCMP in Halifax District and a short pursuit by police, Clarke-McNeil was apprehended. Clarke-McNeil suffered minor non-life threatening injuries in the incident.

"I would like to thank law enforcement for their efforts in apprehending this individual, and the public for their co-operation in providing information and tips," said Mark Furey, Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Nova Scotia.

Clarke-McNeil has been on remand at the Northeast Correctional Facility near New Glasgow since December 2019 on several charges, including attempted murder, unlawful confinement, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

"Correctional Services will conduct a full review of this incident," said Barbara MacLean, communications and media relations advisor for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice.
