SYDNEY, N.S. — Voter turnout for the Cape Breton Regional Municipal election campaign has risen to 45 per cent as of a Friday morning update.

That means 36,742 total e-votes have been cast out of 81,691 eligible voters across the municipality.

The highest percentage of ballots cast so far are in District 8 where 50.1 per cent of eligible voters have participated in the election process.

Only 36.4 per cent of the votes in District 3 were cast as of Friday morning.

Participation rates in the other 10 CBRM districts were all in the mid-40 per cent range, according to the update from the CBRM returning office.

There is no voting by paper ballot in this election.

All voters have until 7 p.m. on Saturday to cast their ballots online at cbrm.isivote.com or by phoning 1-877-495-0236.

In both instances, voters will use a unique PIN (Personal Identification Number) that has been mailed to them.
