UPDATED: A clerk was attacked with bear spray during an apparent armed robbery on Forest Road Friday night.

The incident happened just before 9 p.m. at the Shalimar convenience store and saw a large police presence in the area as well a response from Eastern Health paramedics to treat the victim.

Bystanders told The Telegram that the man had been assaulted with bear spray and was taken to hospital by ambulance. It’s not known whether the perpetrator obtained anything in the incident. Police later said a lone man had entered the store.

Shortly afterwards, the store re-opened for business as police spoke to another man behind the counter and customers were able to make purchases.

The victim’s injuries were minor, police said in an early morning release.

The suspect got away with an unknown quanity of cash. The investigation is ongoing.
