ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — Guests of the Gathering Place on Military Road in St. John’s were offered free haircuts Tuesday morning thanks to the First Choice Cares program.
First Choice Haircuts’ slogan is, “Helping people feel good and look their best.”
“Our slogan is what it’s all about and we’ve been in the Newfoundland and Labrador market for some 30 years now, and we’re here (in St. John’s) to give back to the community,” brand director Athena Kalkanis said from the company’s head office in Mississauga, Ont. “We travel the country coast to coast doing this in our markets each year and it’s a feel-good type of thing for people here at the Gathering Place and helps to boost their self-esteem.”
Gathering Place executive director Joanne Thompson said about 80 guests signed up for the event.
“We are so extremely thankful to First Choice and their staff for doing this today,” Thompson said. “Our guests leave here so very proud of themselves with their new haircut.”
