A longstanding structure near the water’s edge in the Little Bay area of Marystown that once housed artifacts of the past is now a part of history itself.
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, crews with the Town of Marystown demolished Jerome Walsh’s Museum, a fishing shed-turned-museum.
Walsh, who in his early life was a fisherman, collected antiques as a hobby, later displaying them in the building.
A picture of the demolition of the building posted to Facebook by Amy Walsh-Rowlands has received a number of comments from people throughout the community, many sharing their disappointment in seeing the structure torn down.
“It did our community good while Mr. Walsh was there, but like everything else that is good in life, has to end at some point, but still so sad to see it go,” posted Carrie Kelly of Little Bay.
The museum, as well as Walsh’s home, were left to the Town of Marystown after his death in 2012.
