ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A host of tools are being used to enhance educational opportunities for those suffering from learning disabilities.

Those tools and new initiatives will be outlined during a conference on Saturday.

The one-day conference, “Assistive Technology and Learning Disabilities: Learning Together through Experience and Expertise” will be held at the medical school in St. John’s.

“We bring together assistive technology users, educators, parents and researchers to share their experience and expertise,” Edie Dunphy, executive director of the Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (LDANL), said Monday.

“The conference offers a number of breakout sessions on assistive technology for participants to choose from,’’ she added.

There will be 12 sessions throughout the day for participants to choose from. They include:

• Assistive technology and alternate format materials resources available to support students with specific learning disorders;

• Funding for assistive technology and free extensions;

• Assistive technology and instructional technology to support students with specific learning disorders;

• Student aid for students with disabilities;

• Read and write for Google Chrome;

• E-mental health services;

• Conversation Cafe;

• Digital graphic organizers for writing;

• EquatIO for Google Chrome;

• The LiveScribe Pen;

• Keep calm and chrome on: maximizing productivity with extensions;

• Google Classroom: assistive technology that supports students with specific learning disorders.
