A 17-year-old Grand Falls-Windsor teen was arrested and charged with assault on Friday after spraying a man with bear spray.

Grand Falls-Windsor police received a report of a disturbance on Tucker Place, where a man was reported to have been bear sprayed after a masked man accosted him at a residence in the area.

The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Police located a suspect matching the description of the accused and arrested the 17-year-old.

He was held in custody on charges of assault with a weapon, disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstruction.

On Saturday morning, Judge James Walsh read the charges to the youth via telephone conference from provincial court in St. John’s.

The crown released the youth on strict conditions. He is scheduled to appear in youth court on July 25.

Police advise this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety at this time.
