East-bound traffic in the Outer Ring Road was at a standstill and west-bound traffic was diverted into the Topsail Road exit at Paradise as the result of a three-vehicle motor vehicle accident during the lunch hour today.

Some injuries were reported, though it is not known the extent of injuries or how many people were impacted.

The accident occurred in the east-bound lane and the force of the impact sent one car — a Honda Civic — over the grassy median into the west-bound lane and coming to a stop when it hit the guardrail.

The driver of the Honda Civic, a lady reportedly eight-months pregnant, was taken to hospital with some injuries.

Paramedics and members of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department assessed occupants of the vehicles while members of the RNC were at the scene to conduct traffic control and investigate.

Police expect to have one lane in each direction opened within the hour to help alleviate traffic until they finish their work.
