Emergency vehicles were on hand as an Alitalia Airbus A-330 made an emergency landing at St. John’s International Airport early Wednesday morning.
The plane landed just after 3:30 a.m. without incident and taxied to the terminal accompanied by an airport firefighting vehicle.
The flight was on its way to Rome from Miami when it diverted to Newfoundland.
On top of St. John's airport firefighting trucks, the St. John's Regional fire department, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Eastern Health paramedics also responded to the incident.
A spokeswoman for the airport authority said the plane had a mechanical emergency.
Passengers were expected to be here for most of the day.
