An alleged parking meter vandal made a quick appearance before a judge in St. John’s Friday morning.

Leslie John Jordan, 35, was arrested after police received a report of a man damaging and stealing from parking meters in the area of St. Clare’s hospital.

The suspect had left the area by the time police arrived, but had been seen getting into a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle but when they pulled it over, the suspect got out and ran.

The female driver was ticketed for having no insurance and failing to transfer ownership of the vehicle, which was impounded.

Police arrested Jordan at his home around 10pm. He’s been charged with mischief by damaging property, theft under $5,000 from the City of St. John’s, and breach of a court order. He was released from custody after a court appearance, with conditions including that he stay away from St. Clare’s hospital. He’ll be back in court later in the month.

There’s no evidence Jordan is responsible for a spate of damages and thefts from parking meters in the downtown St. John’s area over recent weeks.
