Several RNC police cars and officers as well as the RNC K-9 unit are currently investigating reports of a bomb threat at Macdonald Drive Junior High School in east-end St. John’s.

Students and some of the staff have been moved to the adjacent Macdonald Drive Elementary school as officers check the inside of the structure with assistance from school staff.

Cheryl Gullage, spokeswoman for the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District, says students will stay at the elementary school until police clear the scene.

“MacDonald Drive Junior High has evacuated students to their secondary location after the school became aware of a threat. The RNC are on site and investigating,” said Gullage in an email.

Some parents have already arrived to pick up their children, while normal dismissal is around 2:30 p.m.

It marks the second time in as many years the school has dealt with a bomb threat.

It's not known yet if the school will re-open for the rest of the day or until classes are scheduled to begin Thursday.

When asked, teachers were unable to offer any comments as they gathered outside the school.

More details as they become available.
