A broken water pipe has forced the evacuation of a section of a St. John’s apartment building early Sunday morning.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department was called to the building on Forest Road after a pipe broke on the fourth floor of the structure and set off fire alarms.

Platoon chief Peter Fowler said seven apartments on the fourth, third and second floors were affected and that the people living in those units would have to be displaced at least overnight.

The Red Cross was called in to help those residents who might need assistance.
