Tony Young and Todd Young were in provincial court in Corner Brook on Tuesday.
The brothers were there in anticipation of hearing a verdict on a number of charges related to allegations of illegal reporting of herring catches at their 3Ts fish plant in Woody Point in the fall of 2010. The fish plant, its owners and the company that owns the fishing vessel involved are jointly accused of underreporting the amount of herring landed at the dock.
After the Crown completed its case in February, defence lawyer Robby Ash said the evidence presented did not warrant convictions and asked for a directed verdict in the matter. However, Judge Kymil Howe said that she had only gotten through about 65 per cent of the evidence presented over the course of 68 days.
She set the matter for June 27, at which time she’ll update the parties on where her review stands and possibly set a new date for her decision.
