HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, NL – Four candidates are in the running for the vacant council seat in next month’s municipal byelection in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

They are Cora Hamel-Pardy, Hubert Loder, Tim Saunders and Joe Tremblett.

Nomination day was held in the town yesterday, Feb. 19.

An advance poll for the election will be held on Thursday, March 1 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with polling booths at the town hall.

The byelection is scheduled for Tueday, March 13. Polling booths will once again be located at the town hall and voting will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The council vacancy is the result of the death of John Hickey, the town’s mayor, in December.

A majority of council voted Wally Andersen, who was deputy mayor, to take on the mayor’s role in January. Coun. Bert Pomeroy was voted in as the new deputy mayor.
