People in nearby homes were alerted to the incident when they heard a loud bang outside, sending them outside to investigate.

Witnesses said it appeared the vehicle, driven by a man, sideswiped one parked car and then rear-ended another, moving that car about four meters from its parking spot. A witness then said that the man backed away and collided again with the first vehicle he had sideswiped.

The male driver and female passenger were taken to hospital with what appeared minor injuries while their vehicle had extensive damage to its front end.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is investigating the incident.
