Celebrating 4/20 in St. John's

Kenneth Oliver (left), owner of The Herbal Centre on Kenmount Road, said his shop celebrated the first 420 since the legalization of cannabis with giveaways, cake, and product representatives on site, including Jacob Pratt (right) with Great North Distributors. While past 420 celebrations in Canada were often paired with legalization protests, Oliver said this year “it’s definitely exciting because it almost seems like it’s a real holiday now”. April 20 has been a designated day for cannabis-related celebrations for many years, with its origins often attributed to a group of students in California in the early 1970s.
