A male and female have been arrested following what RCMP have called a crime spree in Clarenville over the past several days.

On Friday, Oct. 26, Clarenville RCMP received a report of an alleged overnight theft of a ATM machine from the Clarenville U-Wash. Video surveillance footage was posted to Facebook Monday, Oct. 30, and was widely shared.

On Friday, Oct. 26, Clarenville RCMP also received a report of the theft of several thousand dollars worth of first aid supplies from a vehicle in Clarenville.

In relation to the two investigations, RCMP conducted a traffic stop on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 27, and recovered a stolen St. Johns’ vehicle— a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle used in the ATM theft. An examination by the RCMP Forensic Investigation Services yielded evidence that lead police to believe it had been used in the ATM theft.

The stolen first aid materials were recovered from a second vehicle, driven by a lone female occupant, that was stopped Monday evening, Oct. 29,

An adult male and female have been charged with possession of stolen property related to the stolen vehicle discovered on Saturday, and the same female was charged with possession of the stolen first aid supplies on Monday.

No one has yet been charged with the theft of the ATM machine, and police are still investigating the matter.

The male was in Wabush court on Sunday, Oct. 28 and is presently in St. John’s facing other charges, with a court date scheduled for December.

The female was due to appear in Clarenville court on Tuesday, Oct. 30, but had to be hospitalized due to a medical emergency.

Her court date is set for early January in Clarenville. She has not yet been before a court.
