The incident happened at about 11 p.m. and sent one vehicle careening into a traffic sign and a snowbank.

Two victims were able to walk to waiting ambulances while more victims may have been driven to hospital in private vehicles.

Traffic was light at that time of night but it had to be diverted away from the scene until the cars could be moved.

The incident is under investigation.
